Sea of Thieves – Fishing and Cooking datamined!

Pineapples won’t be the only type of new food in Sea of Thieves

More types of food, fishing, along with cooking have been some of the most requested features for Sea of Thieves. Looking at the files from the latest patch it seems as if all of those are finally making their way into the game!

Types of Food

Here’s a list of the new fruits:

  • Coconut
  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Pomegranate

We’re really looking forward to where you’ll find all of these different fruits. The pineapple has been in the game for a long time, but only as a prop model. The coconut was actually shown in a gif a very long time ago:

Whether or not the eating animation has remained the same is still unknown!

Meat & Fish

  • Bacon
  • Chicken
  • FishSize 1 to FishSize 5
  • KrakenMeat
  • MegalodonMeat
  • SharkMeat
  • SnakeMeat

There are some interesting meat types. FishSize 1 to 5 seems to indicate that players will be able to find different sizes of fish. Kraken, Megalodon and SharkMeat mean that there’ll finally be a real incentive to kill all three of them. We’re very excited to find out what the effects of the different types are!

It seems like this picture just got a whole different meaning
Mmm, bacon…

All of the food types listed above (both fruit and meat) have states attached to them. Here’s a list:

  • Raw
  • Undercooked
  • Cooked
  • Burned

So it seems like you will be able to cook all of them. This also indicates that cooking won’t simply be a craft menu, but you will actually need to time how long you cook the food for. Raw, undercooked and burned food is likely going to have some negative side effects and the ones we found are listed in the next section of this article.

Food state variations

All of food states listed above have variations attached to them. We do not yet know what each of the variations do, but some of the names can give you a pretty clear idea:

  • Blessing
  • Breath
  • Curse
  • Cursebreaker
  • Slumber
  • Spoiling

These all sound very interesting. Let’s speculate a bit:

Blessing sounds like it is a positive effect. Probably heals more or gives the player extra buffs.

Breath could be related to time you can spend diving.

Curse sounds like the opposite of blessing and seems to be a status effect that can stick to the player for a longer period of time, hence there’s also cursebreaker food.

Slumber is probably going to put a player to sleep, while spoiling sounds as if it would poison the player.

Some ideas

The new skills could actually become part of a new trading company. Cooking and fishing would fit the Taverns in the Sea of Thieves really well. The barkeepers could be the main NPCs of the Trading Company, where players can sell their raw and cooked food, or even be sent out on missions to make specific types of it. This could enhance the exploration aspect of the game and give us new and interesting ways to play it. We’re certainly looking forward to how this develops and will of course keep you guys updated.
